SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Democratic House Minority Leader Jamie Smith from Sioux Falls is running for South Dakota governor.
He would be the second Democrat to announce a run against Republican Kristi Noem.
Last week, Democrat Barry Hulse from Vermillion filed papers to form a gubernatorial election committee, according to a filing shared on the Dakota War College blog.
Former House Speaker Steve Haugaard is running against Noem in the Republican Primary.
Independent Lora Hubbel from Sioux Falls has also said she is running for governor this year.
Read and hear Smith’s announcement on Twitter below.
