SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — According to the U.S. Census Bureau, South Dakota’s Supplemental Poverty Rate in 2020 was below the national average of about 9% of families.
The supplemental poverty rate takes into account non-cash government aid and subtracts necessary expenses common to all families.
The supplemental rate a little over two points lower than the official poverty rate nationally.
All the surrounding states to South Dakota were also under the supplemental poverty rate average.
