SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Three-quarters of South Dakotans support keeping abortion legal in at least some circumstances, according to a new poll.
The poll is from news partner South Dakota News Watch and the Chiesman Center for Democracy at the University of South Dakota.
38% of the 500 South Dakotans in the poll said abortion should be legal “only in certain circumstances.” 19% said it should be allowed “in most circumstances” and 18.4% said it should be legal “in all circumstances.”
23% of respondents supported a total ban on abortion. 1.6% said they weren’t sure.
The poll also asked respondents their opinion on abortion restrictions. 40.2% said restrictions in the state should be kept the same. 24.8% said they favored increased restrictions, while 21% said South Dakota should decrease restrictions. 14% were unsure.
