SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — South Dakota’s estimated population grew faster than the nation’s in 2021.
That’s according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The estimate South Dakota grew by nearly 8,300 people since 2020.
That is nearly a 1% (0.99%) growth rate.
The bureau estimated South Dakota’s population in 2020 at 887,099. In 2021, they estimated the population at 895,376.
The national population growth rate, according to Census estimates, is just under 0.3% (0.29%). They estimate the nation grew by 954,369 from April 1, 2020 to 332,403,650 in 2021.
Debra Owen, a lobbyist for Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce, earlier this week on KELO Radio said the Sioux Falls area alone grew by about 7,000 people last year.
