Aberdeen, S.D. (KELO.com) — Aberdeen man Brian Bengs has announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate.
Bengs kicked off his campaign at the “One-Legged Pheasant” brewery in Aberdeen on Nov. 11th on a campaign he calls “South Dakotans First.”
The incumbent, Republican U.S. Senator John Thune, has not announced whether he will seek reelection in 2022.
According to Bengs, he has been a registered independent his entire life but is seeking the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. Bengs is a former college professor, military veteran, and attorney who has never held public office.
Bengs talked about his desire to bridge the deep divides in this country.
According to Bengs, we can sometimes live in alternate realities depending on where someone gets their information.
Bengs says that shifting more power to the states with his “South Dakotans First” plan will force more interaction with one another and make us less focused on what happens far away in Washington, D.C.
