SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Police avert a fake law enforcement scam worth $1,800.
Police say a citizen reported that he was called by the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday.
Only it wasn’t the real Sheriff’s Office.
The imposters said the person had skipped jury duty and needed to pay money.
The citizen gave them their credit card number.
However, police were able to stop the transaction and the person didn’t lose any money.
Sgt. Robert Forster says law enforcement will never ask anyone for money over the phone.
He says call the police if you get a call like this. Forster says with the holidays approaching that citizens should expect more scams like this.
