SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) -According to the Sioux Falls Humane Society, 48 animals were seized from a rural property in Olivet, South Dakota in late October.
The animals were suffering from malnourishment, flea infestations, wounds, and bites. Many puppies and adults were left in the elements, tethered to poles by ten-pound log chains, without food, water, or shelter. There were also several malnourished nursing moms and puppies. Two animals were found deceased on the property in various stages of decomposition.
Damond Baldwin, age 40, has been charged with 48 counts of animal abuse, a Class 1 misdemeanor — each count is punishable by up to one year in prison, a $2,000 fine, or both.
The animals are being cared for by the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society at an undisclosed location.
