YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) — Despite a drought-stressed summer, some surprising harvest results are rolling into area elevators.
Todd Yeaton at Gavillon in Kimball, South Dakota said yields are better than expected so far. He said he’d seen some drought effects on the state’s corn crop, but said yields were largely “at or above what the guys were hoping for.”
Yeaton says soybeans are also doing better than earlier estimates, though there’s plenty of variance from field to field. Some received virtually no moisture and suffered, while others got a shower at the right time and produced more than expected.
Yeaton said train car and shuttle availability has been good and they don’t expect any issues shipping grain out.
