YANKTON, S.D. (KELO.com) — South Dakota Farm Bureau members can now apply for health care coverage through plans offered by the Farm Bureau.
The organization is offering the new plans after a change in state law this year. Coverage will begin on January 1.
Bureau president Scott VanderWal said health care costs have been astronomical for farmers and ranchers and there were many either left uncovered or covered at a very high rate under the Affordable Care Act, prompting the need for the plan.
The plans are not considered health insurance under the new state law. They are not subject to oversight from state or federal regulators.
Those interested in the program should call the South Dakota Farm Bureau state office.
The South Dakota Farm Bureau Health Care plan includes a national network of providers through United Health Care Choice Plus.
