SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Fire Prevention Week kicks off today (Sunday) and South Dakota’s Fire Marshal is encouraging the public to spend a little more time thinking about fire safety this week.
The theme this year is “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety”, designed to promote awareness of the different sounds smoke and carbon monoxide alarms make.
Firefighters use the week to educate the public, especially children, about how to safely get out of homes during a fire and the importance of making sure there are working batteries in smoke alarms.
