SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office took to Twitter to warn residents about a sharp increase of fake prescription pills that are being laced with meth and fentanyl.
According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, more than 9 and a half million counterfeit pills have been seized this year, which is more than the two previous years combined.
Drug traffickers are using fake pills to exploit the opioid crisis.
Fake pills have been found in every state, including South Dakota.
There were 93,000 drug overdose deaths in 2020 according to the Center for Disease Control.
