YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) — A special state board has released a new report on teacher pay, with mixed results.
The South Dakota Teacher Compensation Review Board found the state has increased teacher pay by 22% since 2014, second-highest in the country behind Washington.
Despite that, South Dakota still ranks 50th in average teacher pay at just under $49,000 per year.
The review board was set up by state law passed in connection with a 2016 sales tax increase to fund higher teacher pay.
