SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken is running for a second term.
He made the announcement today under the newly refurbished 8th Street bridge.
TenHaken says during his first term, there has been increased funding for roads and infrastructure improvements.
He also mentioned emphasis on public safety and mental health.
With his wife Jill and three school-aged children with him, he said the job often took him away physically and mentally from his family.
However, he says he spends every day trying to figure out how to make Sioux Falls better.
TenHaken says he hopes to improve housing affordability and availability if he is reelected to a second term.
There were a couple of lighter moments during the half-hour announcement.
In one, a goose flew near the river, its honking echoing under the bridge where the announcement was held. TenHaken quipped, “Getting rid of the geese on the bike path is a second term job.”
TenHaken’s youngest daughter, Nora, the star of his Facebook Live videos, who he called his “campaign manager,” gave the reasons why voters should reelect her dad to his job.
Frequent Sioux Falls city council meeting attendee David Zokaites had said after TenHaken was elected in 2018 that he would run against him next year. One of TenHaken’s campaign staffers said they were not aware of any other candidates–so far–running against TenHaken in the April 2022 election.
