Aftermath of fire outside the Corn Palace, 8/12/21. KORN photo.
MITCHELL, S.D. (KELO.com) — Mitchell authorities interviewed three persons of interest following a Thursday afternoon fire that burned bundled rye grass used for decorating the Corn Palace.
Firefighters quickly doused the fire, which came within about four feet of the Corn Palace.
That particular section of the building is all brick.
Authorities posted pictures of three persons of interest believed to be connected to the fire from a surveillance camera. Police located the three and interviewed them Thursday evening. No one was hurt, but the fire will set back decorating by at least a day.
