SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The South Dakota Department of Health has detected the West Nile Virus in two South Dakota counties.
Both Brookings and Codington counties have confirmed the presence of the virus from samples taken from mosquito breeding pools.
So far, there have been no confirmed cases of West Nile in humans in the state this year.
Health officials urge residents to take precautions in preventing the transmission of the disease.
Wear bug spray, pour out any standing water, and cover up exposed skin at dusk when mosquitos are most active.
