YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) — As the economy and businesses recover from the pandemic, scammers are too.
Jessie Schmidt with the Better Business Bureau of South Dakota says it’s important to keep an eye out for scams when planning a summer vacation, particularly with rental cars and accommodations.
“Anytime there is scarcity, that’s where scammers like to swoop in,” Schmidt said.
Schmidt suggested sticking to reputable companies when renting a car.
She also advised people to double-check listings on sites like Airbnb and Vrbo, putting images from the listing through an online search. If the same image pops up for multiple listings in different parts of the country, Schmidt says to stay away.
Schmidt said the BBB has seen a big jump in reported scams of all types since early spring.
