SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Crews responded to a house fire in central Sioux Falls early Tuesday morning.
They were called to a home on East 28th street next to the Woodlawn Cemetery. Everyone in the house had gotten out of the building safely by the time firefighters arrived.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue said it took crews about a half-hour to knock down the flames and another three hours to totally extinguish the fire.
They’re reminding everyone to check their smoke detectors monthly.

On Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at approximately 1:06 a.m., Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire at 725 E 28th St.
Metro advised crews that all occupants had safely evacuated the structure. First arriving crews found the garage and back of the home completely involved in fire. Crews pulled multiple 2 1/2” hose lines to attack the garage fire and rear exterior of the home while additional crews made entry through the front door to attack the fire inside.
Fire crews knocked the main body of the fire down and conducted a quick search of the structure to ensure all occupants were out of the house.
Fire crews had the main fire extinguished in the home and detached garage in 30 minutes. Fire personnel remained on scene for an additional 3 hours sifting through the rubble to extinguish small fires throughout both structures.
There were no injuries reported at this incident and all occupants safely exited the home prior to SFFR arrival.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 6 fire trucks, 2 support vehicles, and 26 firefighters. The home did not have a sprinkler system. The fire is currently under investigation. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was assisted on scene by Sioux Falls Police Department, PCLS Ambulance, XCEL Energy, MidAmerican, and Red Cross.
