SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — 6 firefighters of the Air National Guard’s 114th fighter wing in Sioux Falls recently battled a large fire on Kandahar Air Field, the base they were working at in Afghanistan.
In March, a fire started inside an abandoned two-story dormitory on base.
When firefighters arrived, they were unable to get trucks close enough to fight the fire.
They tore down a nearby wall, and successfully fought the fire for over 7 hours.
In total, 12 Quick Strike Team members were awarded the Army Achievement Medal for their actions.
