MITCHELL, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Mitchell City Council Tuesday placed zoning regulations for cannabis establishments on first reading.
The vote was 6-0 with two absent. Mayor Bob Everson reminded the audience this applies to medical marijuana only.
Following a lengthy discussion, the council also placed the ordinance creating licensing regulations for cannabis establishments on first reading.
Even though medical marijuana becomes legal July 1, the city will not accept applications until the state issues its rules.
The second reading is set for June 2.
Voters approved medical marijuana last November.
