Sioux Falls, SD (KELO.com) – Today is National Peace Officer’s Memorial Day, and marks the official end of National Police Week. The Sioux Falls Police Department this morning thanked the people of Sioux Falls on social media for their continued support.
Governor Kristi Noem ordered flags to be flown at full-staff until sundown today following a proclamation from the White House stating flags should fly at full-staff.
President John F. Kennedy designated May 15th as Peace Officer’s Memorial Day in 1962. The day honors law enforcement officers killed or injured in the line of duty. Nationally, 285 law enforcement officers were killed in the line-of-duty in 2020.
