YANKTON, S.D. (KELO.com) — Chris Nelson, the chair of South Dakota’s Public Utilities Commission, said Monday he plans on running for reelection.
“I certainly haven’t made any announcement about running for reelection next year; at this point I fully plan to,” Nelson said before speaking to the Yankton County Republican Party Monday. “I enjoy greatly what I’m doing. I believe we’re doing good work at the Public Utilities Commission.”
Nelson is in his second six-year term on the PUC. He served as South Dakota’s Secretary of State from 2002 to 2010. He ran for congress in 2010 but lost to Kristi Noem in the primary.
“That was a fascinating process, running for Congress. I’m glad that I did it, but not something that I’d probably try again,” Nelson said.
Nelson serves on the PUC with Kristie Fiegen and Gary Hanson, both Republicans.
