SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — During an appearance on IT’S YOUR BUSINESS with Bill Zortman on KELO radio, Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead says good community policing demonstrate that you are a part of and not apart from the community.
Milstead says involvement with community organizations like Children’s Inn create partnerships that are critical to community success by caring for the vulnerable.
He also emphasized the innovative approaches to caring for individuals that have been funded through grant applications submitted by the Sheriff’s office, the City of Sioux Fall,s and Minnehaha County. Milstead described results from the grants as an important tool in improving the region by providing more mental health services, efforts to get involved and actually prevent a crime or being able to better care for incarcerated individuals. Grants also have been used to help find affordable housing and other support to help re-entry into the community.
