SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The South Dakota Department of Health is requesting proposals for implementing a secure web-based patient verification system by October 29, 2021 and a patient registry system by November 18, 2021. This is one of the many steps the Department is making to implement “a responsible medical marijuana program that will ensure both patient and public safety,” according to Secretary of Health Kim Malsam-Rysdon.
The system is to accurately identify patients and caregivers, and ensure that only those verified have access to medical marijuana.
The patient verification will also help South Dakota law enforcement officers to identify verified medical marijuana patients and caregivers.
A state licensing system will also be used to accept applications for medical marijuana businesses and support multi-jurisdictional cooperation.
Questions about the Request for Proposal (RFP) should be sent by email to Saura.Rohleder@state.sd.us.
