PIERRE, S.D.(KELO.com) — The official 2020 census gives South Dakota 887,770 people.
Former Chief of Staff for Governor Kristi Noem Tony Venhuizen posts on social media that South Dakota’s 2010 count was 814,180, so that’s an increase in ten years of 73,590 or 9%.
The US population grew by 7.4% so SD’s growth outpaced the national average.
South Dakota growth of 8.9% exceeds the national average of 7.4% and also exceeds neighbors Wyoming, Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa. North Dakota and Montana grew faster.
