SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO.com) — A rare scam happened Wednesday night around 6 at a gas station at 14th and Minnesota.
The victim was approached by a man telling him he needed money. The man had a lot of jewelry and told the victim he would reimburse him for the money he lent him ‘and then some.’
The two talked for a while and went to the victim’s apartment where he gave the stranger $8,000 in cash for the jewelry.
The victim took the jewelry to a pawn shop and found out it was all fake.
Officer Sam Clemens said during the police briefing that we’ve seen things happening like this before, but it’s pretty rare for these types of scams.
“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is,” reminds Clemens.
Police are checking the surveillance video at the gas station for any clues to the con man’s identity. The vehicle the suspect was driving was a white SUV.
