SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Crime doesn’t take the weekend off in Sioux Falls.
Here are some highlights from Monday’s Sioux Falls Police briefing.
BUSINESS BITCOIN SCAM
Sioux Falls says it’s the first of its kind scam they’ve seen.
A scammer called up a Sioux Falls business and claimed to be a regional manager for the firm.
They told the employee who answered to take $3,600 in company funds and go to a local Bitcoin kiosk.
The employee did so then called the fraudster back.
They gave the Bitcoin code number to the scammer.
Sioux Falls Police say once that is done, the money becomes almost untraceable.
The business hit is at 10th and Cleveland.
SHOOT AND DUMP AT THE E.R.
Sioux Falls Police are trying to piece together what happened to a man who was shot in the back and dumped at a hospital early Monday morning.
The police say he gave some information but much of it was inconsistent.
The police did not give information on his condition.
BUT HOW DID SHE GET IN?
A Sioux Falls woman somehow got into a business in the 2900 block of West 41st Street and tried to steal five packs of cigarettes early Monday morning.
There was no forced entry.
Authorities don’t know how she made entry.
While inside, she tried to steal some smokes valued at $40.
Police arrested Sarah Yvonne Barnes, 32.
The police a second person may also have been involved.
