SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Much of the KELO Radio listening area and the Sioux Falls metro remain under National Weather Services warnings or advisories for grassland fires.
The Sioux Falls area is under an NWS Special Weather Statement:
Dry grasses, relative humidity values falling between 25 to 35 percent, and northwesterly winds gusting 20 to 25 mph will lead to areas of elevated fire weather conditions this afternoon through early evening.
Use caution if burning this afternoon, or when discarding hot objects. Always check with local officials for the status of burn bans in your county.
Much of the James River Valley is under an NWS Red Flag Warning:
* AFFECTED AREA…In South Dakota, the counties of Beadle, Gregory, Jerauld, Sanborn, Brule, Aurora, Davison, Charles Mix, and Douglas.

* IMPACTS…Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now….or will shortly. A combination of strong winds…low relative humidity…and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
