SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — An overnight snowstorm hit the Sioux Falls area on Monday morning.
As of 6 a.m., the National Weather Service reported six inches of snow at their Sioux Falls office. Major interstates in the area are passable but have a half-mile of visibility or less. Check real-time road conditions here.
Sioux Falls is under a winter storm warning until 10 a.m. Monday. Check snow-related cancellations here. Schools in Sioux Falls are starting Monday two hours late.

The National Weather Service said the bulk of snow accumulation is expected to happen before sunrise, with snowfall finishing in Sioux Falls between 6 and 8 a.m. 5 to 8 total inches are expected in the area.

If traveling early this morning, the National Weather Service encourages people to bring a flashlight, food and water in case of emergency.
As of 7:30 a.m. no travel is advised on interstates in parts of central and western South Dakota, though highways immediately surrounding Pierre and Rapid City are no longer under that advisory. No travel is advised on I-90 from Draper to Box Elder.
