SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A happy ending to a stolen vehicle with two dogs inside.
According to Officer Sam Clemons, a car was parked outside a restaurant near 26th Street and Louise Avenue running with two dogs inside Friday night around 10 o’clock.
The owner checked on the dogs several times during his meal, but the car was stolen.
The Sioux Falls Police posted the information about the missing dogs on social media.
Officers checked at a few gas stations including one at Sixth and West where they asked if they had seen this red GMC Acadia with two dogs inside.
A short time later the missing vehicle and dogs showed up at the gas station and the owner recognized them and called the police. Police reviewed the surveillance video at the gas station and recognized the suspect as a man from Garretson.
The detectives contacted the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office and they found the car and both dogs. The dogs were in good condition, looking like they had been cared for.
The person who had the car wasn’t involved in stealing it. He was arrested for receiving stolen property and possession of meth when a syringe of meth was found in the car. A purse was in the car when it was stolen and a credit card was used so there will be additional charges.
Police are still working on who stole the vehicle. They do know who used the credit card. One arrest has been made and more will be coming, said Clemens.
