SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The City of Sioux Falls is testing enhanced smart parking meters to replace existing smart meters in use since 2012. The newest smart parking meters offer multiple payment options (coins, credit/debit card, tokens, pay-by-phone, and NFC/contactless payment), increased operating efficiency, real-time data collection, and 5G communications.
The City is testing three potential companies to replace the existing smart meters. All three meters are set up and available for use at 323 South Phillips Avenue.
The three potential companies and replacement meters include:
- The IPS Group, M5™ Single-Space Smart Parking Meter
- MacKay Meters, The mkBeacon™ Smart Meter
- POM Parking Meters, Parktel Solar Smart Meter
All three meters will remain up through the month of February 2021. The final selection will be based on ease of use, ease of enforcement, maintenance requirements, five‑year cost projections, and additional service requirements. Citizen feedback is welcomed on potential replacement options. Smart meter feedback may be provided by email to parking@siouxfalls.org.
