PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — While Tuesday is the official start of the 2021 South Dakota Legislature, similar to before the start of a new college year, today is like “move-in day.”
Legislators, lobbyists, the media, interns, and pages are trickling into Pierre, setting up their “homes away from home” and getting settled into their desks and offices.
There are friends not seen since the end of the last session and the “new kids” who were elected in the fall or moved from the other chamber.
The terrazzo floors are polished smooth, there’s new paint where needed, and the Capitol is beaming, ready for the citizens to come to visit their state’s seat of government.
The House and Senate go into session at noon Tuesday. Gov. Kristi Noem presents here State of the State Address at 1 p.m.
As in the past few years, KELO.com News will supplement its coverage of the legislative session with reports from the South Dakota Broadcasters Association. They have two reporters stationed in Pierre who will cover the session.
