SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A planned 1,500-acre solar farm near New Underwood has received a green light from the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission.
It’s the first solar farm in South Dakota big enough to require a permit from the state. Commissioner Chris Nelson said it won’t be the last.
“I think this is kind of the tip of the iceberg of what will be a significant amount of solar development as we go forward,” Nelson said, adding he supports these kinds of projects.
The development will cost about$190 million and should be operational in 2022.
