PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — According to South Dakota Department of Health Secretary Kim Malsom-Rysdon a vaccine could be available as early as next month.
Malsom-Rysdon shared that Pfizer the multinational pharmaceutical corporation has a vaccine that is first up for federal review.
“The first vaccine that we expect to get is the Pfizer vaccine, which is the first one to have applied for the emergency use authorization at the federal level,” she said.
The Health Secretary says the evaluation will be rapid but also complete.
Along with the vaccine will be a priority list for states, the number of people that are vaccinated will be contingent upon the amount that is allocated to the state. Malsom-Rysdon says originally, the state expected 24,000 doses in the first shipment. That number has since changed to 15,000 as with other states.
At least two other companies plan to submit their vaccines for federal approval as soon as next week.
