SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — South Dakota State University senior Hattie Seten of Sioux Falls became the school’s second recipient of the Rhodes Scholarship, announced over the weekend.
The Rhodes Scholarship is a fully-funded postgraduate award for students from around the world to study at the University of Oxford in England. Seten wants to pursue master’s degrees in global governance and diplomacy and one in refugee and forced migration studies. She will go to Oxford next fall.
Seten heard the announcement over Zoom. One of two honorees from her region, she had to wait to hear her name.
“I didn’t think my name was going to be called, I was just so stunned,” Seton said. “It felt like such an honor.”
Seten is SDSU’s first Rhodes Scholar since Major General Alan Nord from the class of 1952.
