Minnehaha County Commissioners, 2020.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Minnehaha County Commission is thinking about cutting down on the number of its meetings each month as a way to fight COVID-19.
Commission Chair Jean Bender says it could be a temporary measure until sometime in the spring.
“One of the things that we can do to try to do our part besides washing our hands and staying home when we’re sick and wearing masks when we can’t socially distance is to try to limit the amount of interaction that people have.”
One option is to eliminate one, possibly, two meetings a month.
Most commissioners seem to support the idea.
But Commissioner Dean Karsky doesn’t want the public to get the idea that they’re shirking their responsibilities.
“This meeting that people see us having once a week is such a small part of the time that we spend in our role as county commissioners.”
The idea is that fewer meetings mean fewer opportunities for the COVID bug to spread.
