SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Police believe an assailant used a Halloween costume to hide their identity in a fatal shooting Saturday night.
Lt. Terrance Matia says an 18-year-old Sioux Falls high school student was “an unintended victim” in the shooting outside the Red Sea Pub near East 8th Street and North Fairfax Avenue.
Matia says people between the ages of 13 and their mid to late 20s were at a Halloween party at the pub.
“There are kids out there who know who pulled the trigger,” Matia said at the Monday morning police briefing.
Matia says they have already interviewed over 30 people and says they will probably interview another 30 more. He emphasized the need for the community to step forward and help police find the shooter.
“This is not an us versus them situation,” Matia said. “It is a community problem.”
Matia also said there were other instances of youths with guns at the party.
Matia said the victim, Vance Kitungano, was taken off life support last night. Matia said Kitungano was well-liked by his peers.
