SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Police are investigating another Social Security scam against an elder.
The scammers told a 77-year-old man that his Social Security number had been used in a scam, and he needed to pay money to fix it.
The man bought $3,700 worth of gift cards and gave the scammers the numbers.
They told him to get money from his bank.
An alert bank teller told him this was all a scam.
Police say the Social Security Administration only deals with people over the mail and never asks for money over the phone. They say to double-check with other sources before giving money or gift cards to a caller.
