SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls City Councilor Curt Soehl is proposing a mask mandate for the city to fight the COVID-19 surge.
“I look at the numbers and see where we’re going and I’m just scared to death with the trajectory we’re on from where we could be.”
Soehl says he hates wearing a mask but a requirement is important right now.
“I also don’t smoke when I go to a restaurant. That’s a mandate. I also don’t break the speed limit. That’s a mandate. I also don’t text while a drive. That’s a mandate.”
Soehl says fines will be part of the ordinance, but it’s still in the draft stage right now. He hopes to officially present it at the next council meeting on November 3.
This is not cut in stone. Councilor Soehl says if the coronavirus numbers go down, perhaps there will be no need for his ordinance.
