SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken says it’s unlikely he would support a proposed mask mandate for the city.
City Councilor Curt Soehl says he will officially present his mask requirement ordinance at the next council meeting on November 3.
TenHaken says he can’t comment on the specifics of the proposed ordinance because he hasn’t seen it, but.
“Based on what other communities have experienced with their mask mandates, it is likely I will not support a similar measure in Sioux Falls. I strongly support all mitigation measures to help slow the spread of communicable viruses, including face coverings, but I cannot support government mandates that are impractical to enforce.”
The Mayor says many citizens and businesses are already using good judgment and best practices to respond to COVID-19.
Soehl’s proposed mask mandate comes amid a continuing surge of the coronavirus in South Dakota.
