SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The hundreds of new jobs Amazon will be bringing to Sioux Falls means there will be housing challenges ahead.
But they are good challenges to have says City Planning Director Jeff Eckhoff. He says the market is already beginning to react.
“What we’re seeing and what we’re hearing is that there are a lot of housing projects, apartments, and different developments that are responding to this with renewed interest and maybe moving projects up.”
Eckhoff says he’s been in economic development in the area for some 16 years and he can’t remember a project being this big and bringing this many jobs at one time.
Amazon has purchased a large parcel of land at Foundation Park, the business park on the northside of Sioux Falls. No official specifics yet from the company, but a huge fulfillment center or distribution center is expected.
Eckhoff says Amazon’s developer is already pushing dirt on the land.
