PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — The status of another round of federal COVID-19 pandemic aid is still in limbo in Washington, DC. However, during a stop in Pierre Friday (Oct. 9), South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson said he hasn’t given up hope a compromise can be reached before Election Day.
“I want to do something that’s targeted and focused,” Johnson said. “Clearly we’re a country that is still hurting. There are some industries that have just been hit really hard, and I don’t think we should walk away from that.”
President Donald Trump and his wife both tested positive for COVID-19 at the beginning of the month, which Johnson thinks may have been an eye-opener.
“I do think you see in his tweets he really is open to the idea of something targeted,” Johnson said. “I think that because he’s been sick from COVID-19 he understands that this is something that is scary for people.”
Johnson said he’s pushing both House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Donald Trump to get back to the negotiating table.
