SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Both the Minnehaha and Lincoln County Commissions have approved outdoor burn bans.
Minnehaha County Commissioner Dean Karsky says it’s windy out there, but also dry.
“If you see a ball of dust in the field it’s usually enveloping a combine. You can’t even see the combine. It’s dusty. It’s bad out there.”
The bans prohibit any large outdoor fires. Lincoln allows all fire pits as long as they are covered with the proper mess. Minnehaha allows small fire pits as long as water is nearby.
The bans are in effect until further notice.
The National Weather Service predicts gusty winds for the next few days, and cautions smokers to be careful with their cigarette butts.
