SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls has a new CEO.
The zoo’s board of directors has chosen Rebeka Dewitz, ending a seven-month search to fill the position.
Dewitz is Zoo Director at the Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot, North Dakota. She will take her post in Sioux Falls in late October.
Suzie O’Meara has served as interim CEO in the place of Elizabeth Whealy, who resigned in February.
“We are very excited to welcome Becky to the Zoo and to the Sioux Falls community,” Jeff Hugunin, Chair of the Zoo’s Board, said in a release. “She has accomplished so much in her fourteen years at Roosevelt Park Zoo, including building a new lion and tiger exhibit. We know her experience and expertise will be a great asset to the Zoo.”
Dewitz is a South Dakota native and graduate of South Dakota State University.
