BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO.com) — South Dakota State University has been awarded a $1 million federal grant to fight opioid abuse.
The START program is a three year project as part of the Rural Communities Opioid Program.
The program targets Brookings, Codington and Hughes counties.
The program has a three-pronged approach to address prevention, treatment and recovery.
START will begin with Brookings county in year 1, followed by Codington and Hughes counties in years two and three respectively.
