SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The South Dakota Governor’s Office strongly suggests that an Amazon.com facility is coming to Sioux Falls.
Ian Fury with Governor Kristi Noem’s office gave KELO.com News the following statement late this afternoon.
“We’re glad that this project is finally coming together after lots of hard work by the Governor and the team at GOED, and we’ll have more for you shortly,” Fury wrote.
Earlier today, the Sioux Falls Development Foundation says it can’t comment on yet another media report that Amazon may be coming to town.
The Foundation’s Bob Mundt says, “It’s all speculation at this point.” He says the Foundation works with all sorts of potential business projects and refuses to talk about any of them.
Mundt says the Foundation does have a grant application into the Feds to complete infrastructure at Foundation Park, the big business park, on the north of the city in Foundation Park.
KELO.com News has not been able to independently obtain a copy of the pending federal grant application.
Amazon wasn’t giving up the secret earlier today.
“We are constantly exploring new locations and weighing a variety of factors when deciding where to develop sites to best serve customers,” Amazon spokeswoman Kirsten Wenker wrote in an email to KELO.com News. “However, we don’t provide information on our future roadmap.”
Mayor Paul TenHaken wasn’t giving up the secret earlier today either.
“As a Fortune 5 company, businesses like Amazon are constantly looking at possible site locations to grow their operations,” TenHaken wrote in an email to KELO.com News. “I won’t comment on any speculation or rumors as to where they may expand next.”
KELO.com News also learned from a reliable business leader source that the project was being held up because of some technicalities.
Stay tuned for the formal announcement.
