SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — It may not be a full-on Twitter war, but Mayor Paul TenHaken and the South Dakota chapter of the ACLU are exchanging fire over the placement of election drop boxes.
The ACLU today issued a news release calling upon the city to allow the county to put ballot drop boxes in the libraries in the city.
Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County jointly run the library system.
TenHaken responded to the ACLU by saying, “I don’t write state laws, I just try and follow them.”
He then cited the state statute he thinks prohibits the city from placing the boxes on public property.
