SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Two people have been arrested in the shooting death of a Sioux Falls man whose body was found in a ditch near Wall Lake.
Luis Antonio Rodrigues, 27, and Adam Christopher Sorbel, 38, have been charged with murder and kidnapping.
Cody Allen Schmidt, 30, was found shot to death Monday morning by a farmer out checking his cattle.
The authorities say the victim and the shooting suspects knew one another and that drugs may have had something to do with the killing.
Capt. Josh Phillips with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office ruled out gang activity.
He said the victim was shot 4-5 times from somewhere between close range and 15 feet.
Phillips said the sheriff’s office received many tips from the public and conducted many interviews. All of these “small pieces,” Phillips said, helped authorities break open the case.
