SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The ‘Return to Learn’ plan for Sioux Falls public schools this fall is still very much in a state of flux.
The fluid situation is not what anybody really likes says the School Board’s Cynthia Mickleson.
“I’m a control freak and I like to know exactly what’s going to happen and this is going to happen and on this date, I’m going to schedule this, and in this world right now we’re just not able to do that.”
As the days tick down, Schools Superintendant Jane Stavem says the school district is working hard to put all the pieces together.
“It’s a lot of moving parts. It’s very, very heavily detailed, complex work.” For example, Stavem says that face coverings will now be “expected” in the fall. That is a change in the plan that before only “highly recommended” face masks.
The school district has been getting lots of input from parents, staff, and teachers through the use of surveys. For example, more than 60 percent of parents say their children will be wearing face masks in the fall. More than 80 percent of teachers and staff say they will be wearing masks.
School officials updated the school board on ‘Return to Learn’ at Monday’s meeting.
