SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The South Dakota State Medical Association is urging all public school districts in the state to require face masks this fall.
The Association, representing nearly 2,000 members, says masks are an effective way to keep everyone safe.
“It’s important for everyone who will be in school buildings to wear face coverings this fall,” says SDSMA President, Dr. Benjamin Aaker.
The medical group feels so strongly about it that is has sent letters calling for the mandate to every school board president in South Dakota.
The Sioux Falls School District’s latest ‘Return to Learn’ plan recommends masks, but doesn’t mandate them. But the District’s Carly Uthe says the plan could change in the weeks ahead before school opens, as officials continue to hear from the community.
“They will continue to reassess the plan as feedback continues to come in from our stakeholders as well as organizations like the State Medical Association.”
