MITCHELL, S.D. (KELO.com) — A Mitchell woman accused of killing a 5-year old boy pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to several counts on Tuesday.
21-year old Julia Carter was indicted earlier this month on a charge of second-degree murder and alternate counts of first-degree manslaughter, aggravated assault, and child abuse.
Her attorneys requested a private investigator with a budget of up to $5,000 for the case, which Judge Chris Giles granted. A motions hearing was scheduled for September 8th.
